Trick to keeping your student's attention

A sure way to keep your student's attention is to use a lot of gestures and sound effects when explaining new vocabulary.  I don't use any E1 language in my classroom so I use a lot of gestures and sound effects to get my point across.  Very effective and brings tons of laughter to your classroom.

Warm ups

In the beginning, my warm up activity for kinder is the ball pass game.  It's pretty self explanatory, sit in a circle, pass a ball around and ask your target questions.

Make sure the student passing the ball asks the question and not you.

Smooth transition from one activity to the next

One of the best and easiest ways to transition from one activity to the next is to give a loud clap.  This works in achieving 2 things.  First, you grab your students attention.  The other thing is it also becomes a signal that one activity is over and you are now starting a new one.
